ConferenceMine announces the Cold Covers Practice 2014 seminar

ConferenceMine (a division of InfoMine) is proud to present Cold Covers Practice 2014, a short course and seminar on mine closure and cover practices in cold climates. It will be held April 7–9, 2014, at the award-winning Fairmont Chateau hotel in Whistler, Canada.

Our goal is to bring together experts for knowledge transfer and discussion about closure of mines and waste management facilities in cold climates.  These climates present exceptional challenges, as is the case in northern Canada and Alaska.

The program is primarily designed to share practices about the theory, design, construction, and application of closure and covers in cold climates, and will also discuss case studies and the Mining Environment Neutral Drainage (MEND) program reports.

The target audience for the program includes project managers and cover system design practitioners associated with closure and reclamation of mine sites in cold regions. Other groups, such as regulatory agencies, Aboriginal Peoples, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), will also benefit from the seminar. The program will provide a rich opportunity for networking and professional development.

The event will consist of a one-day short course, followed by a two-day seminar. The seminar will offer the following eight technical sessions:

Day 1: Theory and Design

Session 1: Requirements for closure in cold climates
Session 2: Closure design
Session 3: Cover and form design for cold climates
Session 4: Analysis and case studies on theory and design practices

Day 2: Applications and Experience

Session 5: Cover and landform performance for cold climates
Session 6: Operation and maintenance
Session 7: Post-closure care
Session 8: Analysis and case studies on applications and experience

There is a limited opportunity to submit case-study related abstracts for presentations in sessions 4 and 8. Prospective authors are asked to submit an abstract (300–500 words) by January 20, 2014, to Guidelines can be found here –

Registration for the seminar opens soon. Sponsorship opportunities are available now.
